Minneapolis, MN – August 24, 2026 – Carlson Caspers is pleased to announce that Gary Speier and Rachel Kahler, Ph.D., have been appointed Adjunct Professors at the University of Minnesota Law School, where they will co-teach Patent Research and Writing (LAW 5243/6243) during the Fall 2026 semester.
The course guides law students through the core deliverables of modern patent practice — landscape searches, patentability opinions, freedom-to-operate assessments, infringement, and invalidity analyses — using a combination of free, commercial, and AI-assisted research tools. Students will also examine claim construction, opinion drafting, international and PCT strategy, and the ethical use of AI in patent work.
